Great course that is not overly difficult but has a few challenging holes. The greens were perfect, the bunkers also in great shape, and the tees and fairways were better than average. Very entertaining course without being too long or too difficult. Most holes are pretty wide open with a few holes that have a nearby canyon that you must either carry or avoid. About 5 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean but nice views of the ocean and surrounding topography. It can be a little bit pricey but I am a JC member and that keeps the price very reasonable. I would definitely go back and play.

City owned and city maintained. JC, the operator has their work cut out for them. They rake in the money but rarely spend it on the golf course. I love the staff but the course consistently needs help. The layout is not bad and the views are great but pace of play is always slow. If you are not a member, it's ridiculously expensive.

JC really let the conditions on this course go south. Soggy, mud bog type fairways that are severely damaged. The greens are in bad shape. I have played here before and had enjoyed. It's gone really down hill. Shame.

New management at this course is determined to make this course "Pay-off", but changes are making this just another track. With so many other options available in the area, why pay these prices for just another track. This used to be a fun course to play, and I have played here often, but not so sure I will continue as the new course is not a good place to play.

If you're not a resident of the Encinitas area, don't bother playing this course. At $98, it's obscenely overpriced. If you're a resident, 55-$60 is not a stellar deal either. It's unfortunate, because the course really has potential to be a good track. It has sweeping views of the ocean and hills to the east, the greens for the most part are in decent shape, and the layout is somewhat challenging. Any homes around are far enough off the course that they really are not a concern. But the fairways and rough overall are in poor condition and the tee boxes are not much better. Overall, this course was a big disappointment and simply not worth the obscene price.

Golf cart gal is terrific and makes terrific bloddy mary's! I always have a great time when I play this course. Challenging but fair.

The staff was rude and arrogant. When my bother asked the starter a question, she told him to just wait, she was busy (texting on her phone). The staff at the snack shop was extremely unhelpful and when I asked for one cup of ice to take with me after spending $55 on sub-par food and drinks, she mutter under her breath and sighed deeply to signal it was a major inconvenience. Even though she made me wait for 10 minutes while she read the paper and gave me a side order of attitude for asking her to do her job, she was still the employee of the month compared to the starter. I think the starter is actually the rudest and most condescending person I have met in the service industry. She should be recognized by the course for setting the bar so low.

The course is currently in excellent condition. Greens are running a little fast but are fair. The layout is what I like most for this course. You can see the ocean in the distance from most of the holes. The layout is open, but the course is challenging and fair to all skill levels. It is a great course for couples, once again because it is well designed to be challenging for all levels and handicaps.

Encinitas Ranch is a good course. There are challenging holes, a few unusual ones and nice views of the ocean and mountains. The course conditioning varies from month to month - too often there are patches of dirt near the fairways, sometimes on the fairways. When the greens are healthy and mowed, they are good. Too often they are sandy and slow. It is a JC Golf managed course so its a good bargin for JC members. The pro shop and on course staff are friendly. Pace of play can bog down on Friday and weekends.

Played this course a couple of times. Found the Pro Ship staff to be outstanding in every regard. Rangers/Starter were satisfactory. For whatever reason, I found it impossible to read the darn greens though! Overall a good experience, especially with the repeat play discount.

Wind plays havoc with distant & alignment; strongly effecting club selection. Get behind a senior group & pace of play is +- 5 hours even with cart. Several holes blatantly unfair (blind shots without any information for club selection.

Easy course. Some reat views of the ocean and some very good holes. I live 4 blocks away but rarely play here because of price, pace of play, mediocre course conditions, and staff with an attitude. My biggest complaint is that it's a city course and there is no resident discount at twilight!

A very pleasant course where you can spray balls off the tee on most holes and still have a second shot. Pace of play on weekends is a big problem. Needs more monitoring by rangers. Lots of unfixed ball marks on greens. If a player is good enough to make a mark, he should be savvy enough to fix it. Cost of food and drinks is high. Overall, except for the pace of play, this is a very nice course.

Greens were ariated AND Sanded and we got hosed for $82 non resident rate.

They do not even have a military rate even though our combat Marines are at Camp Pendleton within a half hour.

Encinitas Ranch is a challenging golf course with great ambiance. The staff is really friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

The Pro shop/Club house is beautiful.

The the only draw back or con of this course are the greens. Unrepaired ball marks completely cover every green. However, this can be repaired with some specila TLC (tender loving care) from the grounds keeper.

On a scale of 1-10, I give this course a 6, but if the greens were repaired 9.5.
